| Abstract | ||
Women all over the world have been marginalized and silenced in human history since centuries. Indian society has never allowed enough space to flourish them as individuals. From the days of Manusmitri till today, the status of a woman remained dependent in all spheres of life. They suffered either on the name of religion or social restrictions. The present paper is an attempt to study selected Gujarati short stories from gender perspective. The writers like Kunadnika Kapadiya, Dhiruben Patel, Saroj Pathak, Himanshi Shelt try to do gender justice in their short stories. These women writers focuses on the struggle of middle class educated women who are torn between tradition and modernity. They try to create their own identity as an individual and desire to liberate themselves from the confines of patriarchy. The paper examines the role of creative writers in spreading the message of gender justice and considering woman as human. |
