It is well known that the climatic conditions of our earth have changed since its origin. In the initial days, environmental conditions on earth were not conducive for survival of life. However, in due course of time it changed and origin of life took place. Most of the researchers and scientists working on climate change and engaged in analyzing the available data and facts agree that the planet Earth is gradually warming. Researchers have traced seven cycles of glacial advances and retreat during the last 650,000 years. They have also noticed that about 7,000 years ago, the last ice age abruptly came to an end. The phenomenon of global warming has many implications and immense impacts on our environment and natural resources. The climate is affected by several factors such as urbanization, deforestation, forest fires, rate of emissions of greenhouse gases, and industrialization. Some of the significant consequences of global warming include climate change, impacts on sea level rise, natural ecosystem, biodiversity, impacts on agriculture, forestry and food productivity, marine life, wildlife habitat, glaciers and human health. This paper attempts to highlights the phenomenon of global warming and issues related to climate change, evidences of climate change, reasons of global warming and its consequences on the environment and our natural resources. |
