Association between Childhood Exploitation and Negligence and Muscle Dysmorphia in Youth Male Recreational Bodybuilder

| Abstract | ||
It was sought to the association between childhood exploitation and negligence and muscle dysmorphia in youth male recreational bodybuilders. A total of 115 male recreational bodybuilders between 19 and 42 years old (M = 29.68 years, SD = 6.24) age were recruited from reputed gyms in Panipat, Haryana. All participants completed a demographic questionnaire in addition to the Muscle Dysmorphia Inventory and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. A significant correlation was found between Emotional Abuse and Functional Impairment (r=0.263, p<.05), Appearance Intolerance (r=0.324, p<.05), Muscle Dysmorphia (r=0.363, p<.05). In addition, there was a significant correlation between Emotional Neglect and Appearance Intolerance (r=0.211, p<.05), Muscle Dysmorphia (r=0.301, p<.05). Childhood abuse and neglect were correlated with Functional Impairment (r=0.251, p<.05), Appearance Intolerance (r=0.268, p<.05) and Muscle Dysmorphia (r=0.508, p<.05). Consequently, there is a positive correlation between muscle dysmorphia and childhood abuse and neglect in male recreational bodybuilders. |
