Association between Childhood Exploitation and Negligence and Muscle Dysmorphia in Youth Male Recreational Bodybuilder

It was sought to the association between childhood exploitation and negligence and muscle dysmorphia in youth male recreational bodybuilders. A total of 115 male recreational bodybuilders between 19 and 42 years old (M = 29.68 years, SD = 6.24) age were recruited from reputed gyms in Panipat, Haryana. All participants completed a demographic questionnaire in addition to the Muscle Dysmorphia Inventory and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. A significant correlation was found between Emotional Abuse and Functional Impairment (r=0.263, p<.05), Appearance Intolerance (r=0.324, p<.05), Muscle Dysmorphia (r=0.363, p<.05). In addition, there was a significant correlation between Emotional Neglect and Appearance Intolerance (r=0.211, p<.05), Muscle Dysmorphia (r=0.301, p<.05). Childhood abuse and neglect were correlated with Functional Impairment (r=0.251, p<.05), Appearance Intolerance (r=0.268, p<.05) and Muscle Dysmorphia (r=0.508, p<.05). Consequently, there is a positive correlation between muscle dysmorphia and childhood abuse and neglect in male recreational bodybuilders.
