Water is one of the most important parameter for all living forms. Out of the total available water only 3% of the water is found as freshwater. Of this only 1% or less than 1% is in the form. which can be utilized by organisms. Urbanization, industrialization is the main threats to the freshwater bodies and are one of main cause for water pollution. Therefore its conservation is one of the important duty of all the human. Water quality can be determined by analyzing physico-chemical properties of water and some biological factors. Among biological parameter, plankton are one of the pioneer species in aquatic food chain. They are highly sensitive to their environment. Density, and quantity as well as quality can be tell us about water quality. As some of the plankton species develop only in polluted water. Thus plankton are good ecological indicator to predict water quality and status of water reservoir. They also provide indication about the eutrophication process of water body. Thus study of plankton diversity along with its physico-chemical factors is very much important. |
